Inline Skate across America with Louis Chaix

We recently spoke to Louis Chaix, a recent college graduate of Missouri State University where he played hockey to learn more about his story. As a young child in France, Louis suffered from Steven Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidural Necrolysis.  His goal is to inline skate across the United States from Los Angeles to New York City this summer.  Rollerblade® provided his gear, including skates, wheels, protective equipment and apparel and will be following his journey.  If you are interested in learning more or following his journey, please see these links: Donate and Follow here

Below is Louis’ point of view on why he is undertaking this journey.

Inline Skate across America

I have a dream. And today, I am making this dream a reality by announcing my journey and what Mike Hatfield (@mikehatfield12) and I have been working on for the past few months.  I am going to inline skate from Los Angeles, CA to New York City, NY to raise awareness and funds for research for Steven Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis.

I am a survivor of Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, which left me with second degree burns on 80% of my body surface at the age of 6. After miraculously surviving and chasing my dreams for the past 17 years all over the world, I decided to be a part of something greater than myself.  Which is why I am inline skating across America.

I am beyond excited and humbled to share this story with you and to build a strong community of people who are willing to change the world around them. Together, let’s give hope one stride at a time. As crazy as this journey sounds, we know that with the drive, the love, and the support we are trying to build around us we can accomplish anything.

As my favorite poem goes: “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”  Which is exactly why I am @10forten.
