Skate-to-Ski with Guillaume Le Gentil

FREESKIING AND INLINE STREET SKATING HAVE MANY SIMILAR TRAITS.  SO I DECIDED TO CROSS OVER BETWEEN THE TWO SPORTS .

Three years ago, I saw my inline skating friends enjoying Freeski. I was quiet impressed, and I wanted to test myself to see if my predispositions for inline street skating can help me on Freeski. So here I am today. This year I have joined my friends in the snowpark for the first time. They gave me tips and a huge boost of motivation to jump and slide on different obstacles. It was like when you are a kid and you discover a skatepark, but you already know how to do a few tricks. Learning tricks is much faster because I can use everything I already know from inline street skating.

DOING TRICKS IS EASIER THAN SKIING DOWN THE HILL.
When you are beginning to inline street skate, the most dificult thing to master is how to go down hills safely and effortlessly. A person might think that inline skaters can easily transition to Freeski because the movements seem to be similar, but to be honest, it’s only easier to do tricks than actually going down the hill. The downhill is fast, and learning to turn and carve while being safe and fluid takes time. You don’t really learn a trick from zero.  Street skating gives you strong balance skills, and it requires a lot of precision on slides and landings.  These skills make approaching Freeskiing much easier. You just have to transition your tricks to being faster, bigger, higher, and longer, all while feeling safe with two long pieces of wood under your feet.

FREESKI HELPS ME TO DEVELOP MY SKATING.
Now that I’ve discovered Freeski, it is an excellent way to develop my skating while offering me new inspiration. It  also pushes my physical condition to the next level. Skiing eight hours a day, is different  than an intensive session of three hours on inline street skate. What is really interesting is the fact that Freeski has a completely different culture than inline street skating.  Similar sports with different cultures. This new vision and culture definitely make my skating more fun.

Now that I know the positive effects of Freeski on my inline skating, I am curious to see a Freeskier experience inline street skating.  I want to see how it can help him with Freeski.  I am also curious to see what the Freeski athletes can bring to inline street skating.
