Welcome to the team: Javi Garrido

The power moves of freeskater Javi Garrido are inspiring for all skaters, but especially for women.

With the number of inline skaters increasing worldwide there is also an increase of female inline skaters. Javi Garrido has been in the game for a while and definitely is an inspiration for other skaters. Her background in aggressive inline skating has been a great foundation for her ability to cruise with power and style across town. The way she shreds the streets clearly shows she isn’t afraid to push her limits, even if it means she occasionally isn’t successful. Eating dirt is often part of the learning curve for aggressive and freeskaters.

Rollerblade® is thrilled to welcome Javi to the team.

Explain the feeling you had the first time you put on skates:
I remember that I was very small. It felt like an extension of my body. I could enjoy the speed and freedom of going anywhere. I felt that nothing else mattered in that moment, a sense of connection with the present.

What is your inspiration to keep skating?
For me, skating is a lifestyle; my whole life revolves around skating. It has so many benefits and that is what inspires me to continue skating is sharing these benefits with other people. I enjoy pushing my own limits by skating and inspiring others; especially girls so that they can feel empowered too.

We truly believe skating makes a better world. How do you think skating makes the world a better place?
I totally agree that skating makes a better world, and it helps to have a positive attitude towards life. A thirst for improvement, helps you socialize, share with people around the world who share your same passion.

How do you keep progressing and reinventing yourself?
My philosophy of life is to be the best version of myself. Since what happened with COVID and quarantine I became more aware about that is now the moment to live the life you really want. For me it's skating, going to competitions and trying to get as far as possible. It is a fight against oneself to want to be better. This is why I train at CrossFit every morning. To have more strength, resistance when skating and doing tricks. When you start it is hard but there comes a point where it is already part of you, you see the results, you realize that with discipline and perseverance you can get anywhere. You just have to visualize it and work hard to achieve it.

What’s the most helpful tip you want to share with any skater?
I can only say that they should enjoy skating with passion. And to wear helmet and safety gear, since a small fall can leave us out of the game for a long time. Your skating improves faster if you do not hurt yourself, little by little and gaining confidence, every movement has its technique.

Imagine a world filled with animals who can skate. If you could be any of those animals what would you be and why?
I would like to be a monkey, because they are very active animals, intelligent, curious and sociable. They need to constantly exercise their body and mind to maintain their health.
