North and South America
Rollerblade® created the Skate to Ski program as an innovative approach to help skiers train and stay in shape. Inline skating is the best way in the off-season to recreate skiing motions.
Stephen Helfenbein, member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and long-time instructor, is our lead ambassador for our Skate to Ski Program. Learn more about his approach and how cross training on inline skates makes it possible to get in shape for the season.
Rollerblade® has joined forces with US Ski & Snowboard®, the Professional Ski Instructors of America®, and the National Ski Patrol® to develop a world class off-season cross-training program.
Listen to Olympian, elite ski coach, and ripping skater Doug Lewis describe how the program works.

If you’ve got your skates, gear, and helmet, and you know the basics of skating and stopping, you’re ready to go!
The first thing to do is watch the Terrain Selection video.
If you’re a skier who’s used to bombing down slopes, you need to recalibrate. Start on perfectly flat pavement and nail the basics before going down even a moderate pitch.
Remember, there are no black diamond trail rating markers out there on pavement. Avoid skating where there’s sand, water, or cracked pavement.
Always know the road ahead before you skate it.
The Skate to Ski Training System is a progression of phases. Start with Phase 1 and perform the exercises in order. Make sure you've mastered a Phase before progressing to the next one.
Always wear your helmet and protective gear. And most importantly - have fun with this!
Click the links below to take you to the appropriate Phase.
Get ready for ski season with our training programs. This three-part video series highlights different techniques to incorporate into your ski training. Start with our first video to learn gliding techniques, then move onto the second video to master turning and finally learn how to pull it all together by watching our third video. Keep working on your skills to progress and get hyped for a great ski season!
Great update. I feel that this needs to incorporate Rollerblade a bit more. Now it reads as Stephen Helfenbein’s Dedicated Program whereas it is a partnership with Rollerblade to build all this content. It is a team effort and I feel Rollerblade should be included in the title. I also feel for the testimonials we should probably remove Ron and Martin unless we can get an update from them. I Asked Myles to get one from A coach at Killington mtn school who he was with this weekend.
Once you’ve learned the skills in Phases 1 - 4, you’re ready to start training!
Click here to check out two different training programs that incorporate your newly found Skate to Ski skills.
Training Plan 1 provides a moderate training schedule that utilizes skills from Phases 2 & 3.
Training Plan 2 is a more intense training schedule that incorporates skills from Phases 2, 3, & 4.
For those who want to carry the Skate to Ski Training System out on the trail and not worry about a device or streaming video, we offer a nice analog solution.
