Explain the feeling you had the first time you put on skates.

Growing up in northern Minnesota, my dad and I would ski every weekend in the winter and I think that’s how I got hooked on the feeling of going fast. When I was in middle school, I remember seeing a group of my classmates on skates and I was immediately drawn to it. I begged my parents for a pair of skates and the rest is history. Almost 25 years later, I still get the same enjoyment every time I put my skates on.

What is your inspiration to keep skating?

Whether I am going to a skate park to learn some new tricks, planning a route to cover a long distance, or entering in a race to beat my best time, inspiration to skate has always come naturally to me. There are so many ways to enjoy this activity and I like to dabble in all of them. Whenever I travel, I love to explore new places on my skates. It gives me the ability to cover a lot of ground and see more things.

We truly believe skating makes a better world. How do you think skating makes the world a better place?

Skating is just as beneficial for my mental health as it is for my physical health. No matter what is going on in the world around me, I always feel better after going for a skate. Sharing that joy with friends always makes the experience more enjoyable. I have made many lifelong friendships and can’t imagine what life would be like had I never found skating. Without a doubt, skating helps keep me happy and healthy.

How do you keep progressing and reinventing yourself?

Experimenting with different skates and wheel sizes helps keep things fresh. Learning the benefits of each setup has opened many doors for me. Completing a race or landing a new trick gives me the same feeling of accomplishment. All the different styles of skating work together and help make me a better and more well rounded skater.

What’s the most helpful tip you want to share with any skater?

Don’t compare yourself to other skaters. We all have different body types and unique ways that we move on skates. Celebrate those differences! If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong!

Imagine a world filled with animals who can skate. If you could be any of those animals what would you be and why?

I think it’d be rad to be a kangaroo on skates! Imagine the possibilities of skating through a city with the speed and hops that a kangaroo is capable of!
