Explain the feeling you had the first time you put on skates.
Ahhhhhh, I remember it like it was over 30 years ago! Ha! My parents gave them to me for my 12th birthday. I put them on and charged down my street getting used to the feeling and fit of the skates. On the way back I started launching off the driveway (curb cuts) catching a little air at each driveway and as they say, the rest is history!

What is your inspiration to keep skating?
Pretty much to keep that feeling I had on my 12th birthday, and continue to skate with my 7 year old twin girls….well into my 70s. Getting out with the Rollerblade® Demo van has been a dream come true.  I love to inspire others to put skates on their feet for the first time or sparking that fire of someone who used to skate and help them find that love again gives me inspiration to keep skating.

We truly believe skating makes a better world. How do you think skating makes the world a better place?
Meeting and becoming friends with skaters from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries who share the same passion to move freely through this world on skates definitely makes the world a better place.

How do you keep progressing and reinventing yourself?
In last 5 years I have re-discovered speed skating. Racing, distance and competing in marathons has become a huge part of my skating life. I also have gotten involved with the Minnesota Inline Grand Prix, which is a 6 stop race series in the Midwest with races at (Apostle Islands Inline Marathon-Madeline Island WI, Roll for the Roses 10k-Roseville MN, Chicagoland Inline Marathon-Hoffman Estates IL, Minnesota Half Marathon-St. Paul MN, Rollin’ on the River-Grand Folks ND, Northshore Inline Marathon-Duluth MN). This has motivated me to make it as many races as possible, while trying to improve my times-and get podium-at each race. I also continue to run my local skatepark contest The Forest City Blade Fest which will be going into its 7th year. The focus of the event is the kids and giving them a platform to skate, compete, and have fun!

What’s the most helpful tip you want to share with any skater?
HAVE FUN!!!

Imagine a world filled with animals who can skate. If you could be any of those animals what would you be and why?
I would be a dog for sure. I would love to hang & skate with my dog Turley, which I’m lucky enough to do already with my best friend ;). She has so much fun when I take her for skates and brings smiles to lots of people as we fly by!
